Tyshawn Taylor, a sophomore guard for the Jayhawks, could be out for up to four weeks with a dislocated thumb after he was involved in an altercation that involved several football and basketball players.
The fight occurred Tuesday evening, outside Kansas’ student union building. Sources told the Lawrence Journal World that players from the football and basketball teams were arguing while they entered and exited the building, resulting in punches being thrown.
“Four weeks is on the high end,” said Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self, who is currently on a recruiting trip. “The doctors told me three to four weeks.”
Taylor posted this on his Facebook page after midnight: “I got a dislocated finger … from throwing a punch, so don’t let the newspaper gas ya all up, aite,” according to The Kansas City Star.
Previous posts from Taylor’s account on Tuesday suggested a potential for animosity between the two teams.
On Tuesday morning he wrote, “keep my name out ya mouth for you get smacked in it.” A half-hour later, he posted, “never get outta character … I’m always a G about it.” Later that afternoon, Taylor posted, “n—–s be muggin me … you know I’m mugging back.” The altercation occurred about two-and-a-half hours later, the Journal-World reported.
Taylor averaged 9.7 points and three assists last season as a freshman for the Jayhawks. Kansas, the prohibitive preseason favorite for next year’s March Madness, begins its season October 16 with its traditional midnight practice, “Late Night at the Phog.”

The No. 22 Kansas Jayhawks got off to a sluggish start but eventually trounced the Duke Blue Devils, 44-16.
Quarterback Todd Reesing led the way as usual, throwing for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He was also effective on the ground, running for 51 yards.
The three touchdown passes were thrown to three different receivers, which made life tough on the Blue Devils.
The defense eventually settled down after allowing Duke to put a touchdown on the scoreboard early in the first quarter.
The Jayhawks certainly look like a sleeper to keep an eye on in the Big 12.

Behind the effort of quarterback Todd Reesing, the 22nd-ranked Kansas Jayhawks were able to recover from a slow start to blow out the visiting Duke Blue Devils, 44-16.
A less-than-crisp offensive effort and two poor plays on the defensive end had the Jayhawks tied with the Blue Devils in the second quarter before Reesing took control. In yet another stellar effort in a career that could go down as the best in school history, he finished 28 of 41 for 338 yards and three touchdowns, and time and time again came up with big plays in crucial moments when Duke was refusing to go away. Instead, he delivered blow after blow, running for 50 yards and picking up first downs to keep the Duke defense on the field.
Reesing had plenty of help from his favorite target Dezmon Briscoe. One of the nation’s best wide receivers, Briscoe finished with six catches for 117 yards and a score.
The Jayhawks should be tested more next week against Southern Mississippi, but there’s no reason to think this team won’t be undefeated heading into an Oct. 24 matchup with Oklahoma.

The Kansas Jayhawks got off to a perfect start to the season by dismantling Northern Colorado, 49-3.
The team’s big season opening victory might help to hold off all of those rabid Kansas fans already looking to turn their attention to what could be a very exciting basketball season out in Lawrence.
The football team thinks they have an underrated squad, as do some prognosticators acknowledging them as the sleeper to win the Big 12 championship.
They return quarterback Todd Reesing, who seems like he has been the quarterback for the Jayhawks for the past decade. He is a Heisman Trophy candidate this year, and he showed exactly why against Northern Colorado.
Reesing threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 79 yardsa and two more scores. It seems like he might have developed his running game more this year to become more versatile at the quarterback position.
